Actually, it really isn't - most forms of all kinds mention one's religion, don't they? Of course, I don't think many of us go about talking about our religions very often, which is probably what you mean. I have no idea what religion any of my neighbours are.

Here in the UK stating your religious beliefs is always optional not mandatory. Many official forms might enquire about your religious beliefs but no one is obliged to answer them. In some states in the US however people are pro-actively discriminated against and prevented from applying for certain jobs if they are atheists.
