People who have a religion practice religion. Whatever people might claim and whatever vague notions of religiosity they might have they aren't Christian if they don't actively involve themselves in Christian worship. A more realistic reflection of the true state of religion in this country is the fact that less that 20% of Scots regularly attend church.

and that 20% are nearly dead anyway. religion has no place in modern scotland.
and is a political illusion.

the national census cannot ever be trusted to give an accurate depiction of religious following in scotland as to ask a scot if he is catholic or protestant is not to ask him/her what religion he/she is, but where their political believes are situated.

the scots maybe a spirtual people but they are not a religious people, maybe that can explain our down to earth realism which lets us focus and improve ourselves

It works for religions anyway.

I don't think anyone-even clerics deny the fact that the church in Scotland is in free fall decline. It was for the Christian community to stop the rot and re-invent Christianity in order that it could provide something of relevance to people's lives. It didn't do that so institutionalised religion in Scotland will become increasingly marginalised in the coming years and will cease to have any meaningful significance.

I've always been vaguely annoyed when I hear people referring to (for example) the Norse or Roman pantheons as mythology. They're talking about what were once very established and practised religions - and they don't like it if you suggest that some day their own religion is very likely to be considered mythology.
