I thought the web site was quite interesting and not at all disrespectful to women. The use of vernacular, whatever it was, was likely quite appropriate given the audience which the website was primarily intended. Although I am not familiar with that particular dialiect, I could understand and appreciate that it had grammar which was logical and self consistent. I had an idea that it was connected to Rastafarianism only because I am a fan of Dekker's music. I also think it was both clever and appropriate for Dr.James to provide the links to this forum under the Philosophy and Religion category. For one thing, the topics such as marriage and relationships are important topics of philosophy and religion. Secondly, Rastafarianism is itself a religion and one which may well be of interest to people on this forum. Although Dr.James's use of his dialect and his indirect way of answering questions may have been confusing and frustrating to some, I think he was trying to make a point which was most appropriate to this forum category. I also thought he had a rather clever wit at times. Like, that grammar thing. That was funny. Like, we was making fun like of the fact that even yard man don't always talk like he should, eh. He does seem to have a genuine interest in language, and many thoughts to share. My guess is that he studies or has studied language or philosophy or some such thing and he is having some fun with us. Haven't we all? I think it is all well within compliance with the golden rule. It is ironic that some folks might have a problem with the use of vernacular dialect on a Scottish discussion forum.
HONOUR YOUR MOTHER AND YOUR FATHER Honour your mother and your father That your days may be long, on the land Children obey your parents and the law This is the law, of the prophets Honour your mother and your father That your days may be long, on the land Children obey your parents and the law This is the law, of the prophets Love your parents as how you love yourself Do onto others as they would do to you p.s. DrJames, Even though I may be a yard man, we still brother I and I. Last edited by JKennedy; 1st August 2005 at 00:33. |
