Question

I'm the new lad on the brae and as such, maybe I should just listen and keep my hands tied behind me, so if this offends anyone's sense of spirituality, I apologize.

If I may ask, what do you believe happens to the soul when it discorporates? Do we ascend to stand before the Seat of Judgement? Do we judge ourselves*with a little moral prompting for objectivity*Are there lessons the soul must learn/a goal to be met and so we return until we've reached that level of enlightenment? Does the soul remain with the host?

My own take is that the Divine wants mankind to understand, to have empathy for others, regardless of race or creed, compassion. So maybe a wealthy, self absorbed or selfish person may be born to a poor family in his next life to understand what it is to want, to be hungry as a racist may be born to the minority he was prejudiced against to understand what it is to be hated/discriminated against

Just my .02,
Knightsbridge

Hello Knightsbridge,
There are many models of what will happen to our souls when they cease to be tied to our physical bodies. All these models are possible, as with God all is possible. Therefore it may be that God will grant each of us the realization of the model we cleave to in life, and the fulfillment of the afterlife that we expect and have grown towards. I do not know if this is true, but it is a gentle concept and gives all our beliefs equal status in so much as they will all bring us towards an acceptable and often cherished goal.

I guess I'll give the Catholic answer to this question.

Immediately after we die, we will stand before the judgment seat of God, and He will declare to us our eternal fate. He will send all those in mortal sin immediately to Hell, and all those in a state of perfect sanctity He will accept immediately into His kingdom. Those who have died in His friendship but have not yet been made perfect by His grace, He will temprarily send to Purgatory for final expiation and purification, and then acccept into heaven.

At the end of time when Jesus returns to judge the world, everyone who has ever lived will rise bodily from the dead, and their souls will be reunited with their bodies. He will then separate the sheep from the goats, as it were, take all the righteous into the New Jerusalem, and cast the wicked into the lake of fire.
