"Proclaiming Yeshuah (Salvation)" Parashat HaShavua Shemot / Names

Shemot {1:8} Now there arose a new king over Mizrayim (Egypt), who didn't know Yoseph. {1:9} He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the Bnei Yisrael (Children of Israel) are more and mightier than we. {1:10} Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land." {1:11} Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. {1:12} But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the Bnei Yisrael.

This was not only a new king that arose over Mitzrayim, this was a new dynasty. It is for this reason that he did not know Yoseph, thus he was not concerned with the history behind Yoseph or his family. What concerned him was that the Hebrews, as they were know then, were a large and growing centralized ethnic group, who had much power and influence.

Wow times sure have not changed. I believe the whole overt precept behind anti-Semitism is based on the same fear this new Pharaoh had. How many times have you heard the neo-Nazi types claim that Jews control the financial institutions of the world or that they control the government of the United States of America and other governments as well? Well folks right here in Parsha Shemot we can see that HaSatan (Satan) has not changed his tactics since at least 1500 B.C, yes HaSatan. The enemy of the Jewish people was not Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, Antiochus, Hitler or even Arafat today; the enemy of the Jewish people is HaSatan who manifests himself in or through these and other such type of people. Do you know why he has not changed his tactics over all these years? Because the ‘same old same old’ still works, so why should he change? People are just as gullible as they used to be, still as willing to accept a lie as they used to be, and they are still capable of being influenced by him today as they were thousands of years ago!

Why do so many people hate the Jews? The fact of the matter is people do not hate the Jews, HaSatan does. He is well aware of what Scripture teaches and he knows that without the Jewish people, who eventually will come to salvation en masse, Mashiach (Messiah) Yeshua will not return. Yeshua said He will not come back until the Jewish leadership ask Him to come back. Therefore if there are no Jews left on earth for Mashiach Yeshua to come back to HaSatan thinks his position of influence over the earth and his longevity will be secure.

Mattityahu (Matthew) {23.37} O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that killed the prophets, and stoned them which are sent unto you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not! {23.38} Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. {23.39} For I say unto you, You shall not see me henceforth, till you shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the HaShem.

So the story of the Pharaoh of Mitzrayim plays over and over again in every generation until finally the Jewish people, as Zecharyah (Zechariah) said, come to realize who they rejected:
Zecharyah {12.9} And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. {12.10} And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

From this Scripture we know that HaSatan will not succeed in his efforts to eliminate the Jewish people, not in this generation nor in the generations to come, should Mashiach tarry because the Jewish people remain stiffed necked in there approach to Mashiach Yeshua. Ultimately however they will turn to Him and those who survive the Time of Jacob’s Trouble will be saved. At that point Yeshua HaMashiach (the Messiah) will return and establish the Olam HaBah (Age To Come) ushering in the Age of Shalom (Peace) Mashiach Himself will rule from Yerushalayim as Sar Shalom / Prince of Peace (Yeshayahu / Isaiah 9:5-6).

What does all this have to do with us, both Jews and non-Jews who believe in Mashiach Yeshua? It has much indeed to do with us, because HaSatan uses the same tactics on us.

Shemot {1:9} He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the Bnei Yisrael are more and mightier than we. {1:10} Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land." {1:11} Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens.

We are a people mightier than HaSatan and all his cohorts and we are multiplying in numbers rapidly, therefore he fears us. Subsequently he is trying to deal wisely and craftily with us lest through our evangelistic efforts we succeed in helping unbelievers break out from under his hold and join with us; his enemy. HaShem allowed Pharaoh to lay heavy burdens on the people of bnei Yisrael, because He knew that it would succeed in making them multiply even more. However this did not stop Pharaoh from increasing their burdens in increments. Throughout the process however Yisrael remained a distinct people and in fact they eventually developed into a nation. What a striking similarity this has to what took place with bnei Yisrael during and after the Second World War. Here once again HaSatan tried to destroy the Jewish people, but as always HaShem turned it around and made us even stronger and better.

HaSatan with the permission of HaShem will try to lay heavy burdens on you as a believer in Mashiach Yeshua. He will try to break your spirit and your resolve to witness and evangelize about the coming Mashiach. Do not be deceived by his tactics because he will not succeed, he can not succeed because he is already defeated. This as we know was accomplished at death and resurrection of Mashiach. Be strengthened by the knowledge you have obtained through Parsha Shemot. Persecution and burdens will come, but they will succeed only in making us multiply and grow stronger.

Yochanan (John) {16.33} These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
