By Messianic Jewish Rebbitzen Ellen (Elisheva) Farber

This High Holy Day season was one of incredible blessings. Last year, during Rosh Hashanah, I being the wife of the rabbi took over concerning the children’s services. This year I remained in shul like a visitor. I was so blessed! Saying the prayers, agreeing to HaShem’s deliverance's and breaking of generational curses in our lives...I was elated. Following the first day of Rosh Hashanah services I felt like I had won a battle, did a double session of aerobics and cleaned my home for the next month or two. I had a great time with HaShem and of course with the wonderful Mishpocha He has given us at Congregation Melech Yisrael. As the head of the ladies at CMY, the sisterhood, I wanted to do a physical blessing for Eretz Yisrael. There mare many things that you need to complete the sweet feast service like sweet wine, round challot, honey cakes, apples and honey. I have a great bakery so I allow them to do the baking, this is not my greatest area of culinary art. We as a congregation journeyed to Milton, Ontario the weekend before the feast and picked so many glorious kinds of delicious apples, farming is not my “thing” as well. So what is left? Honey. Thank You HaShem for Your honey! So, we the women of the congregation purposed to have honey from Eretz Yisrael in our shul, only Israeli born honey from Sabra bees with honeycomb!!! What a blessing. We sold many jars and we used many as well right here at shul.

There are many ways we can bless Yisrael. Firstly of course is prayer.

Tehillim 122:1-9: I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the L-RD. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the L-RD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the L-RD. For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the L-RD our G-d I will seek thy good.

We are commanded to pray for Eretz Yisrael and this too is a blessing. On Tuesday mornings we have a one hour women’s time of prayer and we always pray for Eretz Yisrael. Sometimes a good part of our meeting is interceding for the Land. In addition we pray for the ministries in Yisrael and for those in North America that support the Land.

I want all the blessings that HaShem promises and not the curses so I remember the following Scripture in Bere**** chapter 12, verse 3 as often as I can... And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Speaking of blessing Eretz Yisrael, I encourage the Mishpocha at CMY to buy as many products made in Yisrael as they are able to. Personally I began to purpose buying ten per cent of my total grocery and sundry bill in products from Yisrael. As we entered the Festival season it has doubled. Our Shabbat wine is made in the Land. The feta and most other cheese we eat, black and green olives, sugarless chocolate, honey, many different spices and more are all made in the Land and we are blessed for it!

It is clear in Scripture that HaShem will bless those who bless Eretz Yisrael and in doing so we bless Him as well.

We have experienced the sweetness of Rosh Hashanah and the disappointment that HaShem did not return this year. We have been drenched in prayer during Kol Nidre and recited the Al Chet on Yom Kippur. We have been blessed in the most secret places of our hearts as we have the Yizkor service on Yom Kippur and Shemini Atzaret. To remember those who we love and to glorify the Name of HaShem brings blessings into our lives. We have broken the “Fast” with salads of all sorts and fresh bagels. We have shaken the Lulav and the Etrog and decorated our Sukkah with so many things that only He, HaShem has given us. We have beaten the ground with willow branches and prayed for rain on Hoshanah Rabah. We have enjoyed all these things in one service on the eighth day of Sukkot, Shemini Atzaret. We have marched the Torah seven times around our building, singing songs, tossing candy and rolling back the Torah to Bere**** on Simchat Torah. What a blessing to be able to study HaShem’s Word all over again!

Be blessed this year of 5764. Choose blessings and not curses. The anti-Semetic spirit is alive and flourishing in this dying world but we do not have to be part of this. Again I refer to Scripture...

Tehillim 103 says: Bless the L-RD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the L-RD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. The L-RD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The L-RD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the L-RD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the L-RD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; o such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. The L-RD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all. Bless the L-RD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Bless ye the L-RD, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure. Bless the L-RD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the L-RD, O my soul.
