What’s the purpose of life?

You ever wondered what life is about?
I think most of us at some time in our life, start to wonder what’s the point of it all?
I was 40, divorced, my kids not interested, up to my eyes in debt…..and down right pi**ed off with it all.
I started to look a lot closer at other people and do you know what I found….most everybody else is the same…to a lesser or greater degree. I’ve travelled the world quite a bit and it seems to be the same , no matter your culture or colour: PEOPLE ARE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING AND THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT!!

My curiosity was sparked and I started a journey to see if I could come up with some answers…BUT answers that made sense!

Where to start? When you want to learn something you have to study…keep an open (reasoning and logical) mind and try to gain knowledge.

Religion is OUT….ALL RELIGIONS!! How can you accept anything the leaders of religion say, when, with just a cursory look at the history of any of them, it is a catalogue of MURDER, TORTURE and ABUSE which is continuing to this day. My god is right your god is wrong….what a load of bullsh*t
Ask any of them why, if God is so wonderful, why are four children EVERY SECOND dying of starvation?
Of course they’ve got their usual get-out clause: God works in mysterious ways his wonders to perform!!
With all the starvation in the world, why don’t the various religions sell their lands, palaces and treasures to feed the children?
After all, it says in the bible: ‘It’s easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
CONCLUSION: THEY DON’T BELIEVE WHAT THEY PREACH!!

So the first answer I’ve come up with: There is NO God.

But with most forms of research or study, each answer poses more questions.

I’m conscious, as a first post, this might be of no interest to any of the other forum members, so I wont bore you any further, at this point. However, if people respond to the post and would be interested in any other answers I’ve come up with and how I’ve arrived at them OR have any answers to the questions I still have, I will be more than happy to continue.

This took me an hour to type (yes I’m slow) In that time 14400 children have died of starvation…I hope one of them wasn’t yours

Books I can recommend for anybody looking for their own answers as to what it might be all about:
The Complete Dead Sea Scrolls By Geza Vermes
The Seven Signs The Seven Seals And The Seven Veils By Robert G Crosbie
Bloodline of the Holy Grail By Laurence Gardner

Well, without religion you're stuck with existentialism. And unless you're an expert at self-deception, existentialism will leave you unsatisfied.

A cursory look at any ancient human institution will show you a legacy of murder, torture, and abuse. Humans are violent animals. However, if you look thoroughly at the history of Christianity, for example, you will find it has done more to temper our violent nature than to inflame it. Christianity did have its Crusaders, but it also had Jesus, the Apostles, Mother Teresa, St. Francis, and several other holy, peace loving people.

Judge people as individuals, not as groups. I'm sure Jesus' character merits your attention (and an open ear), even if those of many of His followers don't.

It's more like, "which of those people who have claimed to speak in God's name were genuine, and which were either scizophrenic or lying." That is a perfectly valid question.

Divide that rate by 12. It's one child every three seconds. But that is still unnaceptable, of course.

Like most atheists, the first argument you point to against God is theodicy, or, the problem of pain. I recommend 2 books on the subject: the aptly titled The Problem of Pain by C. S. Lewis and When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Kushner.

Most religious organizations do spend a lot of money and political capital on charity. Look at the Pope. He campaigns vigorously for third world debt relief. He has overseen countless charity projects. And he might live in a big house, but he ain't exactly living the high life and throwing expensive parties every weekend.

I hope it took you longer to type than it took you to think up!
And I'm in agreement with you.
Have a bit of a search through this forum, and you'll probably find absolutely every earth shattering answer you've come up with to every religion threatening question you've ever considered, summed up in a line or two.
Poor.
And like I said, I'm on your side of the fence, in general.

I don't have any religion and I'm not stuck with existentialism or any other "ism".I don't believe in a personal God and my life is none the worse for it.If you treat your fellow human beings with a degree of tolerance and respect then you will have done everything that "God" would have wished you to do and when your time comes you will reap the just rewards of your actions.I don't see religion as being wrong,I just see it as being unnecessary and I'm grateful that "God" endowed me with sufficient spiritual insight to grasp this fact.

Your belief system is a religion. It's just not an orgnized one.

Talking

got to say i'm with you in some.... i do believe in 'god' i do not believe in the bible. nor do i think that 'god' is harsh or critical. I believe that 'god' wants us to have what it is we want. ie stop world hunger, problem is not enough of us want it enough.(globally speaking).
