Hmmm, seems like you should have looked at the missalette. It would have told you everything that was going to happen. Also, it has instructions for who's allowed to take Communion. To take Communion in a Catholic Church you must belong to another Church with a valid priesthood, conferred through the sacrament of holy orders, that can trace its lineage back to Peter, for example the Greek Orthodox Church. And you can talk to the priest before and after mass, but you're not supposed to interrupt in the middle.
