Herps actively maintain correct body temperature on their own.
Herps are ectothermic ("cold-blooded")---they don't manufacture their own bnody heat. They maintain their body by moving from a sunny place to a place in the shade. This constant movement maintains their body heat. This process is known as thermo-regulation.
