Dogs Know Words for Many Objects

Everyone knows dogs can fetch and sit on command, but they have the brains to do more: A study published today indicates they can remember the words for dozens of objects,
some of them for weeks.

The findings suggest thay mammals developed abilities to understand sounds before humans learned to speak, the study's German authors said.

The researchers found a border collie named Rico who understands more than 200 words and can learn new ones as quickly as mant children.

I can say ball to my dog, and she will go get her ball!

I have two Schipperkes and when I go on vacation I leave them at the Kennel. When I pick them up, I can read their words for me without their being able to talk! LOL

My lab was "made in Japan" and is still pretty much bi-lingual even though we've been back in the States since '98.

...what can I say...our pets are SMART!!

SMART!!!! They certainly are. They have trained use to go out and ern money to buy them things, provide a place to live, provide food, take them for walks/play etc. and all they give us is love.

I think we are the winners by far.
