Indeed...

As far as it goes, there is no proof that speying early creates any problems.. though late speying can cause cancer...so they say... its a development of the ovaries thing.....

I dont know but the earlier the better if you ask me... I waited till scamp was about a year or so... so i put up with the moaning when she was in heat for about 3 months...and it was absoloute torture...

sheesh

The problem is that their organs are not developed fully yet.

Just like when a women gets an abortion, you need to wait till a certain amount of weeks pregnant, before the procedure to insure the beginning of the development stage is complete so nothing is missed.

I know .. big difference, abortions to speying.. but I think you get my point..

In my Opinion, a cat should be speyed between 6 to 8 months, and that time frame should insure that the cat wont be going thru heat yet (hopfully) however I bet that will differ from one pet to the next. I never had any troubles with Misty and I speyed her at 7 months.

Also when I was chatting with Karen about Blinky.. she told me should wouldnt release her for adopition till after 7 months cause thats when she needed to be speyed. Karen is a breeder.. so I take her say as more educated then what we think.

I've also done a few searches.. and if you see this link.. Pet Health
It says after 6 months old.

But then on another site.. Lort Smith Animal Hospital, they say from 8 weeks.. so who knows..

Just like medical doctors.. lol.. everyone has a different opinion..

Most of the vets here will fix any cat at 2 pounds.. which to me is ridiculous. My group will not fix a cat till they are at least 4-5 months.. they are just too small at 2 pounds.. so many things can go wrong.. I always suggest that its done before they are 6 months or into their first heat.. cats in heat are horrible.

Pabs.. they probably messed something up when they fixed your friends cat.. and I won't even go into the whole declawing thing..

None of my Girls are declawed.. and I wouldnt do that to a kitty..

Now.. 2 pounds? I don't like that either.. too too soon.....

I don't know what they did to the wee thing.. but my friend says she is coming along now slowly..

My other friend adobted a Turkish Van.. Beautiful boy.. and he was already declawed.. Diane my friend was saying she wanted to get that done, and I told her that I wouldnt take her to get a kitty if she did, but it worked out cause someone already did it to this wee boy..

He is the only cat in the house and lives in a condo.. so he don't go out.. but I told her.. she best be careful not to ever let him go.

When I was married to my "Ex", he INSISTED that we de-claw a cat we had; we did, but, when I saw my kitty trying to move with his poor feet in those bandages, I swore then that I'd NEVER do that to an animal again...furniture does NOT ever love you back...In my opinion, de-clawing is just cruel.
