Pet birds are extra-sensitive to odors, vapors, cigarette
smoke and drafts, and they are prone to stress when their routine is changed. They need fresh seed, pellets, vitamins, fruits and vegetables. They are NOT pets that cen be left for others to care for when going on a trip.

No one should get a bird unless he or she is willing tolearn about its care and be dedicated to helping it live out its natural life span.

I sure wish you'd go post that in birds.com.

I cannot stand to read the injury reports. Birds are dying for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is carelessness. It breaks my heart.

Frankly, I think parents let their kids have birds as pets like they let them have chicks and rabbits at Easter. They don't see birds as "much work" or "much cost" so they don't bother to teach their children how incredibly fragile these little feathered wonders are. And birds need to go to Avian Vets. But the parents won't spend the money.

Seriously, Ms. Moderator, I wish you'd go over there and have a chat with some of these kids.

I thought birds were easy to care for, but after reading some articles, I now know that they have some basic needs that MUST be taken of. If only eople knew...

[i]Hey you guys..

I know nothing about caring for a bird.. but this information is pretty kool to learn.. lol.. you never know

I do however think that the Parakeet is adorable. I would love a birdie that talks

Does anyone here have any bird in particular that they can tell us about?

My sister use to have two birds.. and they were very cute. But again, they are thy type of animal that needs to stay caged, as I think Niquie, you posted in the other thread that caging animals was cruel.. and I agree. I'm not sure if it's felt the same about birds but when I do go to someone's house, and they even have a Dog Caged.. It really bothers me. ... And I think if I had to pick one that I loved the most.. lol.. not that I know if this type would be considered a bird.. lol.. or even a pet.. but Owls are truly magnificent and beautiful animals.

Yes, they are magnificent animals. Birds are just "neat" animals; I remember that when we went to Puerto Rico (the first time; my mom's Puerto Rican...), her sister had some doves that she kept in a large cage in her backyard, and their 'cooing' sounded so nice, being in the shade and all...it was nice! About birds that talk..they must have some genes that make it easier for them to learn speech..my daughter has a parrot that mimics people...this is really enlightening---he's learned MY words, as well as her husbands' favorites lol; he even mimics our indlection patterns... amazing. (and funny...lol)

Yeah, I know what you mean---he'll say something like, "Hello, BIRD!", then "____!", which makes up the conversations he hears from both of us!! My daughter just laughs...he hasn't started trying to mimic her laughter---I figure he'll start on that next week...! lol
