Nov. 5th ?

Yes, to a certain degree, mainly because it means we can get fireworks again. It doesn't have a significant place in Scottish history though. For example, we make more of a deal out of Burns night (25th January)

Burns' night. An evenign in celebration of Robert Burns' birth (25th January)

Genereally an excuse for a big party and lots of drinking.
Main point of the meal is the Haggis, which gets adddressed, or toasted with Burns' famous poem before being dished out and eaten, along with neeps and tatties (swede/turnip, and mashed potatoes)
Sometimes, if the Supper is put on by a club or group where people know one another, the after dinner speeches are 2 toasts. In one, one gentleman will "toast the lassies" on behalf of the other guys, and a women will "toast the ladddies" in reply. Quite often these are personalised poems to highlight personal traits or quotes from the memebers of the club.
Then either singing and more poetry from Burns, and or a ceilidh (scottish dancing).
I'm going to one tonight, (yes, I know its a week early) and I get to toast the lassies !!
