Yes.

I don't have any here in Angola so I can't give you any titles, authors, etc. Tell me the period you are particularly interested in and I might be able to recommend something when I get home next week. Mind you, the stuff I usually read can be pretty dry academic stuff so if you're interested in romantic fluff about Jacobites or Bravehearts I'm probably not the best source of information.

There have been several wars between Scotland and England, but none during (or since) the 1700s. You may be thinking of the various Jacobite rebellions which took place in the 1700s, particularly in 1715 and 1745. These were NOT wars between Scotland and England, they were uprisings by supporters of the Stuart Royal Family (who were nearly all called James, which is where the name Jacobite comes from) which had been deposed from the thrones of the three kingdoms of Scotland, Ireland & England in favour of a rival dynasty known as the Hanovarians. Anyway, the Jacobites fought the forces of the British government and lost.

When I get home I'll look out a few general history books covering Scotland from prehistory to the present day and recommend one or two for you, but in the meantime you could visit www.scottishhistory.com and read some of the interesting material on that site.

Sapphire, since you're here in the US, go to any Barnes & Noble bookstore. They have loads of books on Scotland during different time periods and also on individuals.

I can recommend "Scotland A New History" by Michael Lynch. It was published by Pimlico Press in 1991 and the ISBN number is 0-7126-9893-0
