Hi Scotty
I just returned from a wonderful trip to Scotland that my brother and sister and I took together. We went to Edinburgh, Glasgow's West End and took The Flying Scotsman to Dumfries & Galloway to stay in a wonderful 14th century castle (I found the Isle of Skye Scotch to be quite nice) From Clarencfield we went to the west coast port of Stranraer and headed back to Glasgow via Troon and Ayr. If memory serves me correctly, don't you live in this surrounding area? I found all the people in Scotland to be wonderful (& the thickest accent from the Glasgow area) How is your Scottish brogue? By the way, my name of Willy is really my scotty puppy's name...I'm Di (short for Dianne)and live in California. |

Hi Dianne,
Glad to hear you liked my homeland..if you were in Glasgow you were only 25 minutes drive from where i stay!! Troon and Ayr are 1 hours drive from me. If you drove from Ayr to Glasgow you must have drove through Greenock which is the town right next to Gourock where i stay...Nice to hear you liked our Scotch..i'm drinking one here as i type..it's called Jacobite and tastes like nectar!! My accent is almost identical to the glasgow accent 10% Brogue and 90% Scottish slang. Translation..Slang is changing words so that only people from a particular area understand what is being said for example :- Cold could be...Caul..Baltic...Nippy..Freezin probably something you won't experience living in California.. |

Hi Scotty,
Thanks for the info, I will keep it and put it to good use when the time comes. Theres alot of computer people on this board. My husband works for a computer company. He's in Texas right now for S.E training. He'll be back in 2 weeks. Hi Dianne, nice to hear from someone else that lives in Cali. Where abouts do you live? - Julie |

Hi Scotty,
Thanks for the nice reply. I thought the west coast of Scotland is some of the most beautiful countryside in the world! Regarding accents, boy are your guests going to have fun speaking with you in person. While on the Flying Scotsman one of the really kind stewards told us how being asked in the U.S. what language he was speaking, his reply was, "Aye, the same one we taught all of yous!" (typical American student I guess) So, do you live in the countryside or more the suburbs in Gourock? Di (or Willy ^..^ ~) |
