Greetings from Italy

Hi, I’m an Italian girl and I’m writing here cause there is a memory I would like to share with you. It was the 26 march 2005 and I was in Milan to see the football match Italy-Scotland at San Siro… these memory talks about nice people, people smiling and sharing those funny moments as we was friends, as we was football fans of the same team. I remember some people dressed in their traditional kilt imitating Marilyn Monroe dancing over metropolitan grids… oh how much I enjoyed myself that night!! I would like to acknowledge “those people” to given us a football match never seen, thanks for your “character”. I loved you so much that the next month I left to visit Edinburgh and also there I found a lot of kind persons, such as a woman (without I ask for it) who helped me to find the bus to reach my hotel. I can forget also Caledonian beer … so different from ours and honestly I preferred yours… but my legs no! When I got up they almost abandoned me!
Unfortunately it was also the last time I met Scottish, but in my heart I hope to join my passion for motorcycling (nowadays I spend everything for it and my expansive passion for “race”), maybe a day I’ll return in your country riding a bike and above all hoping to remain on the correct side!!
Waiting for that day I found this forum, so I curry to read all about you and Scotland, hoping also to make some new friends who help me to lessen those missing feelings.
I’m sorry for my English, but there are a lot of years I don’t use/study it.

instead after that night...for me, there’s less imagination…
After that night at San Siro, when I came home and downloaded pictures taken that night and thanking in particular two pictures of me surrounded by a nice Scotland’s supporters group ( I was just watching the boy who was taking the picture, so unfortunately I was not paying attention to what was happening around me) I had also discovered another thing about Scots, well I confess now I have the answer about what Scot wear under their kilt.. and I have also the prove!!

Ingrid, it sounds like you had fun when with the Scots.

We always ensure we get involved with the locals when we go abroad, and embrace the locals.

Glad you enjoyed, and hopefully we get back to Italy or you to Scotland soon.

Hi Scosman87, I ensure you Italy can’t forget the tartan army and we’ll be very glad to welcome you again!!
I remember also many articles written about it and in each one there was something about the fact that Scots should be taken like an example for all supporters… in Italy football fan are still in “cages”, it’s so embarrassing!!

Maybe I’ll back for few days in autumn (at the end of motorcycles season), but MAYBE cause I’m also fighting with my best friend for the destination, she would like to visit London instead… but I hope to win and in the while I prepare myself to improve my understanding of your language watching movies like A Shot at Glory (2000) - IMDb. By the way, can you suggest me other movies where people speaks with a Scotland’s accent?
When I had spend some days in Edinburgh I bought a funny little book What's Under the Kilt? - Conclusion ...please tell me that I haven’t just say/answered one of the ten things to never say

Hey Ingrid,

I would say to you, ask anything you want... Us Scots are not a shy and retiring bunch, we are very open and honest.

I have saw the book myself, and has a wee chuckle over it myself!

As for Scottish films there are plenty out there, unsure as how you would see them in Italy? However, I would suggest -

Gregorys Girl Gregory's Girl (1981) - IMDb
Sweet Sixteen
Sweet Sixteen (2002) - IMDb

They are two of the more romantic yet funny types...

As for Comedy and to have a laugh, I would suggest -

Still Game - "Still Game" (2002) - Episode list

It is one of my all time favourites, and love to watch it!!

Where in Italy are you at the moment? May I suggest if you wish to come over, you could try a cheap flight with http://www.ryanair.net

They flight into Edinburgh direct

If you have any other questions, then let me know
