Ideas on the best places to go in Scotland

I am new to this site. Was looking for a few good Scots for info on the best places to visit. I love everything about Scotland and am planning a trip there. Any ideas let me know!

Most of the membership here is American - but there are a few of us Scots here, too - and I'm sure you'll get some suggestions which you might find helpful.

However, if you posted your query in the 'Travel' forum, I'm sure you'd get lots more help - and you could probably pick up lots of pointers from other questions that have been posed!

You might get a more specific reply if you told us where you might be particularly interested in visiting - what your interests and hobbies might be and whether they would inform any suggestions. When you might intend to visit would also probably be important - as would whether you intend to drive when you're here or rely on public transport (which would limit some of the places you might be able to visit).

My home city is Edinburgh, so I would obviously recommend it!

Ok so I should have said that I was actually looking for Scots to talk to. I am very interested in learning more about the country and hopefully make a friend or two. Being an American woman I am bored the American men and wanted something new and exciting I figured Scotland was a great place to start.
