Elman:

I sent you a PM.

But there are plenty diamonds in the dirt to make it worth the journey. Now, I like that. What a beautiful sentiment.

You are absolutuely right, if Scots speak quickly and with thick accents I would most definitely struggle to understand. "Jewantfrieswithatorwedgiespal?" God help me when I visit if this is accurate!

His protryal of his own father in that film was very funny and the accent very good. "Heid doon!" I laughed so hard when I saw you'd written this! That was my favorite part of the movie!!! Goodness, I've got tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. That's great, thanks!

Disclaimer: my comment is limited in value and does not reflect the reason there's an avid interest of Scotland throughout America.

Just wanted to get that out there. I think the interest in America differs on where you are. I live in NC which was offered as a land grant to Scots leaving the Highlands during the Clearances. On top of that there were other incentives such as not having to pay taxes for 15 years if they settled in this area. With that being said, and considering the people who immigrated... or as it's still being considered today by many as a 'forced immigration'... there is a lot of 'holding on.' When they came to the area, they brought everything with them. The clan systems were set up, Gaidhlig (sorry don't have special symbols) was still the primary language until recently, the local universities have Drum and Pipe Corps, SCD is danced every weekend... etc. Because they settled the entire area and with a large population, they married only people of Scottish origin. Many Americans from a DNA standpoint only have Scottish ancestry. Aside from the Scottish tourist areas, I see more kilts in NC than I did in Scotland.

I will say that it is not popular to be Scottish American as it is to be Irish, Italian, etc. I say this as a girl who cussed out a Hispanic in a parking lot because he whistled at my friend who was wearing a kilt. Also, just as a warning... if any girl is interested in finding out 'what's under the kilt,' you best pay upfront... and in CASH! We don't pimp them out for free.

Night everyone.

Wow! I don't recall anyone mentioning pimping the lads out. Did I miss something? Umm, wait a minute...! So, you don't mind pimping your fella out, but his "trick" must pay cash up front? That's an interesting arrangement you and your guy have.

All joking aside, the other info you gave was interesting. Thanks for contributing.

LOL The pimping out part is a joke in some sense. You would be surprised how many women, especially after a few drinks, will pull up a man's kilt to look... and not pull it up a little... but all the way up... even with the wife/girlfriend there!

That's just plain disrepectful of both the gentleman and his lady, as well as rude!

I know. If a guy did something that disrespectful to a woman, there'd be all... 'you know what' to pay. Some women would even call the police and have a guy arrested for sexual assault.... I'm amazed that these same women believe that there is a double standard for that kind of conduct.

Most Scotswomen KNOW what is worn under the kilt. And the usual, stock answer is: 'nothing, it's all in good working order'.
