Scots - how are they?

I think Kathyv's quotation of Robert Burns is the most apt.
My personal experience of the Scots was that they are warm, welcoming and willing to show off their country to anyone willing to truly appreciate it. They are down to earth, love to make fun of their closest neighbor, but are self-effacing, too. They have a great sense of humor, all around. As much as they love to drink, they are still basically well-meaning. In all my nightly wanderings in Glasgow on my holiday (I don't drink), there was only once I was treated inappropriatly. I wasn't worried - gravity was that young man's worst enemy. There is a great pride of who they are, where they've been, and the sense that they will still be who they are whatever happens in the future. Does that answer your question?

Even though often the memory of it may be a bit hazy due to a slight over-refreshment on the way...

Hmmm,it seems the fish get bigger with the over-refreshed telling, the world over. Do the heroics of the past, also?

Come, Mr. Nonny, regale us with one of your fuzzy memories of the heroics of the past so that Izabela may get a true idea of the mentality of the Scots.
