Maybe this will help?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Man’s a Man for a’ that.
IS there for honest Poverty
That hings his head, an’ a’ that;
The coward slave-we pass him by,
We dare be poor for a’ that!
For a’ that, an’ a’ that.
Our toils obscure an’ a’ that,
The rank is but the guinea’s stamp,
The Man’s the gowd for a’ that.
What though on hamely fare we dine,
Wear hoddin grey, an’ a that;
Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine;
A Man’s a Man for a’ that:
For a’ that, and a’ that,
Their tinsel show, an’ a’ that;
The honest man, tho’ e’er sae poor,
Is king o’ men for a’ that.
Ye see yon birkie, ca’d a lord,
Wha struts, an’ stares, an’ a’ that;
Tho’ hundreds worship at his word,
He’s but a coof for a’ that:
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
His ribband, star, an’ a’ that:
The man o’ independent mind
He looks an’ laughs at a’ that.
A prince can mak a belted knight,
A marquis, duke, an’ a’ that;
But an honest man’s abon his might,
Gude faith, he maunna fa’ that!
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
Their dignities an’ a’ that;
The pith o’ sense, an’ pride o’ worth,
Are higher rank than a’ that.
Then let us pray that come it may,
(As come it will for a’ that,)
That Sense and Worth, o’er a’ the earth,
Shall bear the gree, an’ a’ that.
For a’ that, an’ a’ that,
It’s coming yet for a’ that,
That Man to Man, the world o’er,
Shall brothers be for a’ that.
Robert Burns
As the above comments say - we're all different, but I think we're not as demonstrative as "Latins", and probably like to drink too much. Beyond that there's plenty of good and bad.
Hey I think we Finns are much like the Scots. We're honest but we don't trust people that easily. We're loyal to our friends but we don't call just anyone "a friend". We're reserved but not icebergs. If someone can reach trough the wall he/she can find a person with very strong feelings. And we both respect our blue and white national flag. We both have got a history under a rule of the mighty neighbour: we'we lived under a rule of the Swedes and the Russians, now we're independent but the Scots still have their "auld enemy" around.
Talking It gonne rain
I think we Scots are just like our weather and countryside... full of contrasts that can be experienced all in one day
Mind you at a drop of a penny we can be romantic and a bit mental 'heid de ba' Remember it was a Scot who wrote Jekyll and Hyde
All four seasons in one day, that's what we are... warm, funny, cold, blossoming, reflective... and that's before we even get to the pub!
My Belgian friends said they took a while to 'cope' with the locals in Scotland, they generally see everyday Scots as being wild and temperamental, but at the same time full of emotion and warmth. Funnily enough that's what My South African, American, German, Dutch and Italian friends say too..... HEY! THEY LOVE US!!! awww like an senile old uncle unpredictable but interesting.
