The all purpose signature picture q&a thread..

Step one: Trying to decide what kind of picture you want. The hardest part is going to be finding a graphic that you want to use.

Graphic places to search:

The easiest thing to do is search through Yahoo, altavista, (or your prefered search engine) for a graphic that you want. Example: If you are looking for a cat graphic search yahoo for cat graphics. Make sure that the graphic is freeshare, I can not stress this enough, do not use copyrighted images. Almost all clip art is free share. It will say on the page that you are searching if you are allowed to use the graphic.


Step Two:
Once you have the picture that you want to use, the best thing to do is find yourself someplace to host it. Hot linking off the site that you found the graphic on is not recommended. Web masters become very angry when they find that someone is stealing their bandwidth.
If you do not have a web site where you can host your own image, let me know, or send me the image and I will be able to host it for you.

Once the image is chosen and put up on a server I will send you the img code that goes into your signature box in your profile.

Step 3:
Once you have chosen the picture, go to your profile and in the signature box add in the img code

ex: img[in here] addy of picutre/img[in here]

and that should be it. Any question post them here

Unless it otherwise states on the page (like it says right out that you can not use that image) then its considered freeshare..

as for web page hosting.. its getting harder and harder to find a free service that actually allows you to link off of their site..

I do know that http://www.freenetsites.com does allow this, but you actually have to create a page with them.

Who is your isp? Most internet providers offer some web space with their internet access. I'd find out if you have any alloted with them and use that.

After weeks of trying to find someplace online that would allow you to host signature pictures for free.. I have finally succeed..

If anyone is interested in having a sig. gif but hasn't been able to find someone to host it go here

they have a gif size limit of 50K which isn't too bad..(most signatiure gifs should be under that)
they'll only allow three images to be stored.. and best of all they are free and they work!!

What if you want to supply your own picture or art... is there a way to do that?

Supplying your own artwork is fine Holly and works the same way.. you'll just need to upload it to your own web space.
And we also try and keep signature pictures to smallish size.
