I am looking for Allison Mc Rhine or Mc Rhind which was living in Edinburgh about 1966. I found a message in a bottle from her with her address in Edinburgh. Unfortunately I lost this address, but I had send her two letters and in the second one I had put a little picture of me. My question is: What happened with mail which is or can not be delivered. Will this mail be returned to sender or will it be lying there forgotten in a postoffice in Edinburgh? Can some one explain me about this?

Unless you have clearly marked your return address, then the mail will be held for a period, then I believe it is shredded.

However, if it was delivered to an address (from 1966!) there is a good chance that the family may not still be at that address - it is 40 years ago!

I'm sorry that no-one answered your earlier post.
