Calder Street School

I attended Cuthbertson Street School on Victoria Road- left in 1957 to come to Canada - I am sure we went to Calder Street School for school dentist (butcher!!).
My cousin lived at 50 Boyd Street.

Another Canadian with Scottish Roots

Good to hear from you - I live in Markham. As I told Elizabeth - my cousin lived at 50 Boyd Street and attended Calder Street School - her maiden name was Jean Madden.

I have a friend in Canada who also lived on Boyd Street (Eileen Ewing) but I don't know which # on Boyd Street. She also came with a friend to Canada.
I left Scotland when I was 10 years old but still have warm memories of my childhood days at Cubbie!!

Hope to read another thread soon!

Boyd Street

Hello Thistle-46,
Good to hear from you. Unfortunately I don't recognize the names of Jean Madden or Eileen Ewing - I felt sure I must have known them. I only lived there for about 6 years before coming to Canada. Does your cousin know of someone by the name of Elizabeth Barr also from Boyd Street? I know Markham quite well. I worked at the Metro Toronto Zoo for 13 years and lived in Brougham ( I believe the 407 is now going through the old property- what a waste!!!!!!) I also lived in Pickering and Whitby and now I'm in Guelph. I work at the Ontario Veterinary College so I'm still involved with the animals. Great to hear form you. Mary

RE: Guelph

Interesting--my parents lived in Guelph after they retired and my Dad, now a widower, moved to Markham to be closer to us. I have spent so much time in Guelph (as my Dad reminds me "the Royal City"!!!!)over the last ten years and really love the city.

I knew a friend of my parents who worked at Vet College- her name was Molly - she has since retired-small world right enough!!

cheers...anne

Hello Anne,
I can't beleive this - I know Molly - I actually work in the same job that she left. I see her and John quite often when we're shopping, alhtough I haven't seen her in a while. If you haven't been through here for a while you'll get a surprise how Guelph is growing in the south end - sub divisions going up everywhere, but I guess that's happening all over. What was your parents names so I can tell Molly when I see her - won't she be surprised!!. Good to talk with you. Mary
