Hi, kaceenz. Great to have another Gabaldon freak on board!! Where are you from? I haven't seen Baraveheart, I guess I should. Yes, I know what you mean about the whole 18th century era. Makes you swoon. Buy I don't think I'd trade my hot showers, washing machine, microwave or hair mousse for a gallant warrior. Although at times, it is tempting!!!

Just had to say hello to you all at the same time.
I didn't realise that there are so many Diana Gabaldon fans. I had never heard of her until I picked up Cross Stitch in a secondhand book store......I couldn't put the book down and finished about 2.30am and still had to go to work the same day. I was bloody disappointed because the ending was sooooo open for another adventure. I had to go on a hunt to find Dragonfly in Amber. I was hooked!!!! Lyncan, I visited Stirling in 1997 during the time they were renovating Stirling Castle. I also visited again in 1999.......they had finished the main hall. God you should see it!!!! It so stands out from the top of Abbey Craig. The main hall has been painted in an Apricot type of colour (which was the style of the time). The interior walls have been taken back to stone and there are (I think) 3 large fireplaces. The windows are awesome.....they have criss-crossed lead through the panes and each pane has the family crest of a clan. The view from the rose garden down onto King's Knott......I can just about see the knights on their horses and the sound of cheers as men joust. If you like history type books a friend of mine put me onto an author named Sharon Penman:- When Christ and His Saints Slept; Here Be Dragons; The Reckoning; Falls the Shadow Sorry for rabbitting on........Hope to speak to you all soon. Take it easy |

Hello, Genna, great to meet you! Stirling Castle sounds absolutely wonderful. I hope to visit Scotland again, sometime in the future, and check out Stirling. I can just imagine what you were saying, about looking out the windows, seeing the knights on horseback and the people cheering.
Although they had those magnificent fireplaces, I'm sure the place must have been icy during the winter. Thanks for sharing the author, Sharon Penmanm, her books sound interesting, I think I'll check them out. You've got to keep reading the Gabaldon books, but yes, once you start, you can't stop. I had a few nights where I couldn't put them down and paid the price the next morning, when I had to get up early, fix breakfast, lunchboxes and rush the kids to school. Where are you from? Keep in touch. Bye |

This is so GREAT!
I'm so glad to find other Outlander fans! Besides a couple of ladies at work I really have no one to discuss the books with. When I go into my "Outlander Trance" at home...Mr.TS just rolls his eyes!! I did hear about the book rights being sold Princess (by the way...nice to meet ya!) I think there are some updates on that on Diana's website...nothing happening with the purchase so far. There was a great debate as to who could play the roll of Jamie...I'm not sure such a man exsists!! If so I definately want to see him. For me Jamie doesn't really have a face...I know that sounds strange! I can't explain why. I'm on Voyager now. (2nd time) It's one of my favorites, because of course Claire gets to go back. It's also my favorite because it is the book that Jamie and I bound with Young Ian. I just love that kid!!! The only thing I hate about the book is the fact that so many years were waisted between Jamie and Claire. I really hate the lonelyness that Jamie has to face...not to mention the fact that he is stuck in a cave for several years and then in prison and then basically in prison on a farm. It just makes me want to comfort him !I try to understand the reasons for these events from an arthur's stand point...Claire is given time to become a proper surgeon, Brianna has to be of an age where she will understand what happened between her mother and another man, be mature enough to accept that that man is her real father and also old enough to be left alone...possibly for eternity...and ultimitly old enough to time travel. But, still I hate all those waisted years. I also do not know quite what to think about the widow McNabb's "gift" she gives Jamie before he turns himself in to the English...that never did settle too well with me. Neither did his marriage with Logharre...why would he marry someone who tried to have his wife killed, I don't care how old she was at the time! But other than those things <lol!> It's one of my favorites!! I'm glad to get to share my feelings about the book with you guys! OH....who else thinks that Gillie didn't die in that cave??? Thanks Genna for the wonderful "mental pictures" that you gave me of Stirling!!! I'm gonna take them to work with me tomorrow...and everywhere and everyday for that matter. I'll get "to Scotland someday" but until then keep giving me your pictures to hold on to! Sara, My kids are 12 and almost 10. They have caught me crying over the Outlander series a few times and now they pick on me about it!! the big saying at our house is..."Oh, Ian" That was all I could say for about a week after Ian made his discission to stay...well you know. <deep sigh.."Oh, Ian"> It was great talking to you guys again...I've gotta get going! Outlander friend, TS |

Hi Outlander Group," it's great sharing this series with all of you. Yeah, I also heard about the mini series, I think abc wants to do it. I don't know if I want to watch it, I'm so set on how Jamie, etc. look in my mind (although just like TS, Jamie is faceless in my mind, but I'm sure if I could put a face on him, hollywood would not do him justice). I was also upset about the lost years between Claire and Jamie, and I cried when he was in the cave and came once a month to see Jenny, and then when he's in chains in Ardsmuir...Don't even mention Laoghaire to me, #@$%!!! But you know, I don't think Claire told him it was her who tried to kill her. In Drums Brianna tells Ian (father) and Jenny about her and then later when she's with Jamie she also tells him. But still... And no, I don't think Gellis died in the cave.
Well, got to go, or I'll never stop!! I wonder if Fraser, who started this thread has realized how long and interesting it's gotten!! |
