Travel in Sept

Hello all. I will be traveling to Scotland soon and I am trying to plan my trip. Looking for good places to visit in my short stay to take advantage of the time available. Where are the places that I need to go? Good places to stay? Plan to spend a couple of days in London when I arrive and then north by train into the highlands... Any help would be appreciated.
