Comparative Cultures Discussion

Hello,
Although I've read that there aren't many Scottish folks using this site, I'll give this a try. I'm looking to discuss similarities and differences between American and UK culture, Scotland in particular. I've spent some time in the UK as a student (years ago) and will be returning in the next year or two on sabbatical. I'm doing some research on comparative health care systems and medical ethics. But more generally, I'd like to meet some people who reside in Scotland who are interesting in chatting or emailing to learn more about how things work in our respective countries.

About me (brief version): I love Scotch (and wouldn't dream of adding ice or more than a drop or two of water); love the landscape of the coast and the highlands, get happily lost in the back alleys of Edinburgh; most of all, identify with what I understand to be the pensive, maybe even reserved Scottish temperment.
I'm a professor at a New England law school, someone who likes to learn about other cultures, and who is always happy to trade back time and thoughts and information.

So, if you feel like writing, please contact me via this site and we can take it from there.

Well, we'd never dream of calling whisky 'Scotch'!!!

Quite right, sorry

Thank you! Of course you are quite right. We call it "scotch" to distinguish it from american whiskeys which are made via a different process (bourbon and rye). No offense intended.

None taken. Just pointing out a 'difference'. Irish whiskey has an 'e' - just like American and even Japanese brands.
