Ach, it's not as bad as it sounds.

My only annoyance is that I do rather wonder jsut WHERE is the "life" that is supposed to start at 40? I'm 44 now and still no sign of it.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Anyway, with a name like yours, you can always claim to be "young".

Thumbs up Hello Yankee_lass

Yankee_lass. I am from the midwest too, and love everything scottish, I am into genealogy too, my family comes from scotland to the states about the late 1700,s I can find the Ramsay line back too the 1200,s but have some holes, right at the time they came over. If I ever get rich I too will go to scotland and by the way I am over 40 (female ) I was surprised of how little scotts were on this site too . Ane how young every one was, but I enjoyed reading all the threads.
Hope to hear from you.

Hmmmm, just to give me a legit reason to say something in this post, I'll admit to being hovering around that 40 figure, (and also being one of those few here actually living in Scotland).
But what I really want to say is, what on earth gives with the weird obsession with genealogy that many of you have?
For reasons I won't go into, I have been paying particular attention to the forums that other ethnic groups have, and the idea of tracing family roots in the form of names would be seen as really strange by most of them. With other diasporas it is the physical place, the town, region, etc, that they originated from which is seen as more important to them. They would want to absorb as much as possible of the history of that place. And if a specific place is not known, it would be the culture of the entire ethnic group.
And, like I was saying in another thread, it would be accepted that (say) a Greek that is born in Canada would be seen as just as "Greek" as one born in Greece. The exact opposite seems to be the accepted view here, and you never hear the word diaspora spoken by a Scot.
