Hiya,
Everyone on the boards is really friendly, so it won't be long before you have lots of people talking to you. As you might guess by the name, I am Scottish and live just outside of Glasgow so anything you want to ask about Scotland, ask away and I'll try to help. Why don't you tell us a bit about yourself? |

about myself
Ah good point. well........where do i start? I am 5'8", weigh around 165-170, have dark brown hair and REALLY dark brown eyes (get teased about them a lot), I like to mountainbike, play neighborhood basketball, take walks in the woods at night. I have roots in scotland and have been fascinated with it ever since I was a kid, mostly the historical rather than the modern. My roots come from Clan Gunn. I have ALWAYS wanted to learn to speak the Old Scottish Language but I find it difficult to find any good tutorials around here where I am at. Would one day love to own a REAL scottish claymore, but can't shell out the cash for one. heh. I live in Washington State and one day hope to visit scotland. And as in any other forums I leave out a bit of info as to deter stalkers, so before you ask, I do not let out my age, home address, phone number, or occupation. but most anything else you can ask me.
If you have any questions, let me know. |

I know what you mean about giving out too much information, I usually just give out my age (25) and that I live outside of Glasgow (could be one of a million places!). But if you don't want to give that info, that's fine.
I am 5'3 (shorty)and don't know how much I weigh. I have dark blonde hair and blue/green eyes. That;s us equal now, we know the same things about each other! My direct family have always lived in Scotland but I think a few hundred years ago they came over from Ireland. Although my name isn't Buchanan my family belong to that clan. I don't speak Gaelic but I can say a few words, but not enough to have a conversation, or even a sentence! You wouldn't need to worry about stalkers if you has your own Claymore would you?!?!?! I have seen William Wallace's broadsword and it is amazing. He must have been a big guy to be able to fight with it, it's huge, bigger than me! I would love to visit every state in America, that is my dream but I don't have the money for it just now! I am, however, going to Toronto and Niagra in a couple of months on holiday (I know it's not America but I'm getting closer!) |

lol, true, with a nice sized claymore I would not worry about stalkers. So, you would love to visit every state in the U.S., eh? Well, I managed to visit most of the continental U.S. during a vacation with my father. We followed the Oregon Trail from Kansas to Oregon with a few side trips to historical sites in other states. All in all i think we touched about 40 states. Though each state has a rare beauty all to it's own, my personal favorites were the New England states and the Northwestern states such as where I live now. Though most will argue with me, I found the midwest to dry and yellow to my liking. But like I said, each state had a rare beauty all to it's own.
As for Scotland I would love to see the Lochs and castles, i imagine most everyone who visits there would, heh. I would love to hear the beautiful music that captures the soul over there. I would love to meet the people and taste the culture. I guess you could say when it comes to scotland, my heart belongs there. |

I think that Scotland is the same in that, most of it is beautiful but in different ways. I think I tend to take a lot of it for granted though. I'll need to stop doing that!
When I go to Canada I'm hoping to be able to go to New York for a couple of days and see the normal things like Central Park, Times Square, Empire State Building etc and probably go for a ride in a yellow cab! I've been to a few Castles and I would say they are pretty stunning. Not just to look at but because you think how long they have been there and what went on inside them. It's amazing how many people who have never been here feel an affinity with Scotland. Must be a pretty special place. |

Hi. I'm not Scottish, but I had to reply to your message. I can identify with much of what you said! I actually got the chance to visit Scotland last November, and it was gorgeous! Anyway. The music, the culture, the history...my family thinks that I might be bordering on obcessive...and maybe they're right...they really get a kick out of the fact that I am attempting (really just attempting) to play the bagpipes and to learn Gaelic...
Oh well. I won't take up anymore of your time, it was just so neat to see someone had similar interests. Christine |
