Hi friends from Scotland.com

I am new here and I have a very special onlinefriend from Scotland. I am really interested in'his' country and just wondering if all the Scottish are so sweet, dear, kind etc. He taught me some Scottish words, but I still don't know the meaning, lol: GONNAE NO DAE THAT.....
btw: I am from Holland and I will visit Scotland next summer with my family!
Great site folks, I will visit it many times. And.....excuse me for my bad English/Scottish, but I guess you all will understand. Bye for now!

Welcome again to s.com and I hope you enjoy posting here, do not worry
about your English/Scottish as we will be able to understand
you !!

One translation could be 'I am not going to do that'

Good question!

"GONNAE NO DAE THAT" is the way its pronouced. But it is also dialect, used more in Glasgow and on parts of the west coast!

lol

Now I'm gonna get shot down in flames. lol

Angry Flames?

Now why would you get shot down in flames? Is this a phrase you use that I am missing the meaning of or should I know?

Full of questions aren't I?

Cool Gonnae no dae that!

That expression is usually used in a very whining (or wingeing) way. I should think that you are right Cryin Charlie, on the whereabouts it is mostly in use. Coming from Glasgow we used it a lot in humour. There was a comedy show on T.V. (I was over in Scotland in JUne) and there was a sketch about two lighthouse keepers and the punchline always was Gonnae no dae that! You probably would know the name of the show, I cant remember - but it was hilarious.
