Best places to stay in the Hebrides?
Hello, all...I've been feeling the Hebrides pulling on my heart for several decades now, and I want to visit that part of the world for my fiftieth birthday next year. Any suggestions about nice places to stay that won't send me into bankruptcy proceedings? Thanks, Amy

Hillcroft B&B - Isle of Skye
Hillcroft B&B on Isle of Skye is the best place to stay. It is a cozy and quaint B&B. The hosts make delicious breakfasts, are extremely helpful, lend out guide books, visit with you, and give you the full Scottish experience. It is extremely clean and has a gorgeous view of Loch Snizort. It is breathtaking at night with the sunset. Horses can be seen galloping on the beach. It is about a ten minutes drive from Portree, the capitol of Skye, giving it an awesome location. IF you are to stay somewhere on Skye, STAY HERE!

Public transportation in Scotland is reasonably priced & reliable. If you fly into Glasgow, take the West Highland Railway to Ft William, stay the night perhaps (I can recommend the Glenaladale B&B), then train to Mallaig, where you catch the ferry (CalMac aka Caledonian MacBrayne Official Caledonian MacBrayne Hebridean & Clyde Ferries site) to Armadale on the coast of Skye. From there you can take a bus to Portree, and perhaps on to the B&B recommended by the previous post. I've heard that Skye is a good starting point for a tour of the Hebrides. I can also recommend CIE Tours and GoAhead tours for excellent guided trips to Scotland (and Ireland). We've tried both companies, and enjoyed those trips very much. And no, it won't break the bank. It's quite affordable, especially when you book the trip one year ahead and make payments. By the time you leave, the trip is paid, and all you have to do is bring cash for souveniers!
