Hiya Folks

New member here, plugging my group for taking action on drug misuse, and the darker aspects of society in general. The forum looks to contain alot of information, and knowledable members, so I've hopefully found a wee gem.

Hope you are all well. I've created a group on Facebook to discuss the growing problem of drug misuse in Scotland, and what ideas we can come up with to change it. It's really a social forum to get people thinking, and to hopefully move these ideas on into government.

To quote my own group description -
An open forum dedicated to society, and making their lives better. Please feel free to air any and all opinions that you think will improve your life, your society, your country.

A beautiful nation, thriving in so many respects - but with a cancerous underbelly.

Scotland needs answers.

So, I hope to see you there, starting discussion, posting ideas, documents, etc. We need to increase the awareness of drug misuse, as well as create the realisation that something big can be done about it.

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance if you can help the group, and Scotland.

Good luck with your website.

Luckily, I have no family members with any type of drug problems, nor any friends or acquaintances, either. So I won't be needing the advice!

Hi Polwarth, thanks.

Drug misuse affects us all through the money it costs every taxpayer, to the countless people who live in areas where they have to witness the ongoing aftermath. It is a growing problem, and affects more people (tax costs aside) directly every week.

Pd..It isn't an advice site, it's a forum to discuss attempts to eradicate this problem.

Cheers,

Good luck with this much-needed site.

BTW, I've heard it said that everybody IS addicted to something.
The obvious physical dependency stuff is self eveident but what about being addicted to:
food, appearance, power, controling behaviour, vanity, spotlight addiction, oneself, and a pile of other things.
Strangely enough, such are more noticible in others than in ourselves.
Apart from oxygen, should we have any addiction?

I suppose the Devil's Advocate would say "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

Some members of my wife's family in the Philippines have had problems with drugs - crystal meth to be precise - known there as shabu. A very debilitating drug, very addictive. the usual thing, the first try-outs are supplied cheap, then when hooked, the price goes up. So they sell everything to pay for it and start to rob, whore and cheat for the rest. The victims don't eat (it takes away hunger and besides the food money's been spent on shabu), they get thin, eyes get sunken and staring, they develop nervous ticks like biting lips and chewing imaginary food or gum, always restless.

We helped those while we lived there and some went off and stayed off. Others went back on after we left. We tried to make them busy with their own businesses but they lied about their progress and that they'd sold the shop stock or motor-bike taxis we bought them for drugs.

So we stopped. At the last count, my wife's mum (never a nice lady at the best of times) was selling drugs as was a rather shifty sister she had (mum's favourite daughter).

There's only so much you can do as an individual to help. That is why organisations to support and help addicts get off, bit by bit, hopefully for good, must be encouraged.
