Welcome Wacker, I see you like walking in Scotland, have you a favourite place?

I used to like walking around Deeside.. Quoich Water on the Mar Estate was my favourite, legs won't manage it now.

Another place I like is Glen Strathfarrar, west of Inverness..do cheat nowadays there, drive up
in the car and go for a gentle stroll

A beated welcome to the forum from me wackeruk_wacker!

Another long distance walk for you to consider would be the Kintyre Way; having spent a lot of time over the years travelling the length and breadth of the Kintyre peninsula I can tell you that you'd be treated to some great views and loads of historic landmarks to keep you busy for at least 3 weeks!

Welcome wacker !

Kintyre ? My childhood stomping ground ! The West coast side. My Dad was born in Tighnabruaich in Cowal, raised in Kintyre and went to school in Kintyre. His father was gamekeeper at Ronachan estate and the family lived in the tied-house built for them at Newhouse, nr Clachan (upper side of the road, the house is still there). My Uncle Neil Weir and Auntie Maude lived in the schoolhouse, next the CoS church at A' Chleit, between Tayinloan and Muasdale. We stayed at A' Chleit many times during my school hols. Fishing up at Loch Garrasdale, guddling in Ballochroy Burn, taking our boat over to Gigha or Cara and fishing. Even when my uncle and auntie died, we used to go back every year and bought a residential caravan at nearby Rhunahaorine Point.

Kintyre is a lovely place and very friendly. Even though I am Musselburgh born and bred, my Dad's Kintyre pals told me Kintyre is my home. Go there for a holiday - beautiful. (You're making me homesick !!).

Welcome. I'm a fellow long distance walker, and know of many excellent walks in the Highlands of varying lengths, remoteness and difficulty. I usually try to complete at least one a year.

If you have several days to put into it, I recommend walking the length of the Outer Hebrides - from Barra to the Butt of Lewis. Much of the route now follows designated coastal paths, and it is absolutely stunning. The scenery is fantastic, and there is a constant supply of interesting historical sites.
