Talking H! from Long Beach, WA

Hi! My name is Carolyn, My husband is retiring in a year or so, and we are planning on retiring to Scotland, we are looking at Stornaway. We are planning on putting our house for sale in a few months, we have a big house with a an ocean view, and a few minutes walk to the beach.

Hi there Carolyn, welcome. Living on the coast in WA, you will at least be used to rain! LOL

Hello.

There has been a lot of information requested in the 'Moving' Forum, which may smooth your transition to the UK.

I am assuming you will be able to get visas to live permanently here. Good luck with your proposed move!

Stornoway is a rather unusual choice of place to retire to. May I ask why you've chosen it ?

Stornaway

We have been looking at other places also, but The isle of Lewis seems like the kind of place we both want, it is an island, it has small villages, houses wide a part. My husband is getting the Stornaway Gazette. This is what we are looking at, but it could change when the time gets closer.

Lewis is beautiful in the 24 hours of daylight it gets in midsummer; unfortunately, a midwinter's day isn't quite so pleasant. Come over then and check it out before you make your decision.

Don't get me wrong, I love the place - but then I've got connections with it. It might take a stranger some getting used to, though !
