Red face Hello from Florida!

I am new to Scotland.com but I'm happy to say I'm not new to Scotland. I spent 9 days in Melfort and I fell in love. I was there November before last and had a wonderful time. I wish I was there now. I would move there if it were possible. Unfortunately do not have the funds or the citizenship to do so . I met a great person and happy to say we are friends but I would love to meet more. Penpal would be great. I am a 40 yr. old female. I am a Veterinarian Technician and I do pet adoptions on the side. I love the outdoors and of course animals. I am hoping to return as soon as I can and it would be great to meet more people from Scotland before doing so.

My email is zufreiden1969@yahoo.com

Welcome to the Scotland.com forum. Hope it lives up to your expectations and that you manage to adopt a pet from amongst the members. While awaiting your next visit perhaps you would find it interesting and certainly much more convenient to visit a place much nearer your home with historic Scottish connections.

If you were to travel north through Georgia on Interstate 95 you would reach a place that played a major role in the development of that State just south of the Georgia/Carolina Line. It was here in the 1730s that a group of Scottish Highlanders founded a settlement and called it Darien.

At that time this was the wild frontier beyond which control was in the hands of Indians and Spaniards. This frontier was defended at this point by those Highlanders who formed a fighting unit known as the Georgia Highland Rangers. They dressed in the Highland garb over buckskin breeches and practiced that fighting method known as the Highland Charge which many an opponent came to rue to their cost. They spoke Gaelic and their war cries instilled fear and dread in the hearts of anyone foolhardy enough to take them on. A Red Indian was a teddy bear compared to a Highlander on the rampage.

There are still many families in that fair city who are descended from those original settlers, and many interesting historical sites to see. I feel sure that you would enjoy yourself there amongst people with similar sentiments to your own.

Regards,

Crofter.

Thank You

Thank you so much for the information Crofter. When I have the time I most certainly check that out. Right now I'm studying for my A.S. and I do adoptions as well so it keeps me busy. Maybe some time next month I can make it a weekend trip and bring a friend.

Thanks again!!!

Wendy
