hi hilandr, Where are you? I'm in Ohio. Have you started exploring Scotland.com yet? People have been shy about posting lately, particularly new people... so please just hop on in and start any topic you like and ask questions.
do you like going to highland games? |

Hello, Ohio
Hi, Holly...we(I am the male half) now live in Okla., the state of my birth, but have lived all over the country at one time or another. I am pretty much retired now. I picked the name not just because of my ancestry, but because I love the mountains. Many don't know we have them here, but we do. They don't compare with the Great Smokies or Rockies, but are just as beautiful in their own way. Yes, I am enjoying looking around here,..and asking a lot of questions. I have visited your state and have relatives in Columbus. Thanks for the welcome. (P.S.) I have seen two Highland games in North Carolina and, yes, I enjoy them.

(smile) Yes, we are all pretty "out-doorsy" around here. It is not only fun but healthy. The mountains are in the east and south, the Ouachitas (Wash'tah}, the Kiamichis, San Bois, and Arbuckles (the only ones non-Okies can pronounce). Also, the fishing is great. Right now, my main project is home improvement, which takes most of my time. Rather a bad time of year for it as well! Trying to get ready for the Christmas "Gathering". We are quite a "clan".

LOL. I have to do a lot of home improvement too, though money is tight right now so i can't do all i wish. Hopefully in the next month i will redo the walls in a spare bedroom.
Fortunately the outdoors is free, and i love it too. I have a particular walk i love to do... 7 miles along a converted rail to trail. I found that by doing the same route, i've learned so much more about nature and my ability to observe has greatly improved. For a while i was walking it every day through all weathers and seasons. Now i understand the rhythms Ohio has. I know when i'll see thistle, when the wooly bears come out. What time of day i might spot dear or goffers or even a fox. Where to look to find bluebirds. Where to look to find wild sweet cherries or spearmint. What is Oklahoma like? |
