You are a bit.... this is supposed to be a Scottish-centric board, after all!

Not that what you write isn't interesting, but a lot of it is known to many of us - we're not cultural savages, you know

It reminds me of the old Billy Connolly skit on national anthems at the Olympics. He did it on "An Audience with Billy Connolly" back in the 1980's.

He talked about the British national anthem and started wearily singing God Save The Queen while ambling round-shouldered along the track at a snail's pace while holding up the British flag. Then he mentioned the up-and-coming new countries with fast, busy anthems and showed their Olympic flag-bearer marching very fast (and overtaking the Brits) while singing "We're from Freedonia and we dinnae give a f*** !"

Well they did name a bit of Oz Van Diemen's Land (aka Tasmania). I worked with Dutch for a number of years who use to tease Aussies by saying they discovered Australia but vacated it because it had nothing to offer and left it to the Brits to "re-discover".

It also took me a wee while to figure out the link between a map of Tasmania and a mapatasi. (Aye okay then I didn't figure it out - it was Nick from the Gold Coast who explained it to me - I had thought mapatasi was an aborigine word).

haha yes. The silly Dutch landed in the wrong place. A great country though.

Is there anymore uniquely Scottish songs or Anthems?

It's because most of the coast reached by peoples was either extremely arid, or swampy.
