Genres Llke-dislike

What genres of music do you like/dislike/love/hate ? Do you have any condundrums/enigmas in your likes/dislikes ?

I tend to like a lot of things, without necessarily being a big fan. The only bands I have really loved were The Beatles (1962-66 when I was 9 -13 years old), The Small Faces (entire time I heard them), The Who (I first got into them in 1969 but embraced all their music 1964 - till now - they're still the love of my life).

Music I like - hard rock incl Deep Purple (they were never called heavy metal), Jethro Tull, Indie/aternative Rock, '60's R&B, some 60's rock and "hard"-pop, Tamla Motown in entirety, Phil Spector "Wall of Sound", Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas etc, Ska & rocksteady, end of 1970's early 1980's British music (associated with Two-Tone and later, New Romantics and electronic "fashion-pop" (eg ABC, Eurythmics, Heaven 17 etc), New Wave (incl The Jam), late 80's soul/R&B such as Luther Vandross, Alexander O'Neil, Bobby Brown, Teddy Pendergrass, Whitney Houston, Joyce Sims, Mica Paris, Neneh Cherry, Gap Band, Fatback Band, '90's Britpop such as Blur, Pulp, Oasis etc, plus Scottish dance music, pipe-music and pipe bands, Gaelic songs, some Scottish songs/folk music, some Irish fiddle music etc, some Irish folk music, some classical music (usually orchestras and including ballet music), some rap (incl some early gangsta), Eminem, Snoop Dogg.

Music I don't like - country music, production-line rap, remixes (with a vengeance befitting the wrath of God ! - covers are ok - but remixes ? No !!!)

Neutral - music I generally hear on the car radio (so-called today's top 20 or 50) - in one ear and out the other.

So - over to you !

ill no doubt get some stick for this (as i always do)

like = electro/techno/drum&base/ambient/dubstep/ska/reggae type stuff plus loads of other stuff...rap sometimes if its not about gangsters and "ho's"

dislikes = cheesy pop dance music....most things in the charts...rock music (some rock i like but 99% of it i dont)....anything that resembles the beatles, oasis etc...any kind of "brit pop" indy rock makes me head for the door instantly.
basically i dont like music with guitars in it.

mega hate = when people produce guitars at partys then proceed to belt out cover versions and everyone has to be quiet to hear them sing.....thats when youl find me in the kitchen or heading for a taxi

I loved the Beatles and the Kinks, also the Lovin Spoonful and all Tamla Motown.

Love folk music, modern and old - mostly Scots, but even some English, too! Pipe and scottish dance music (except JimmyShand or embarrassing Scots performers, eg The Alexander Brothers, Andy Stewart (of Scottish soldier fame) and a couple more.)

Love opera, classical music (particularly Baroque) and music from the ballet.

HATE: Hard rock/heavy metal, country, Bangra, Europop. Anything with an insistent rythm and little or no words. If I hear that music in a clothes shop, I head right out the door.

I tend to go through phases and it depends on what kind of mood I'm in as well. I get turned on to something and I will play it over and over until I get tired of it and have to switch to something else. If I'm listening to the radio I am one of those annoying people who is constantly surfing through the channels but that's mostly because the radio stations in Richmond are awful.

Music I like - Rock/Alternative, bands like Seether, Staind, Paramore. The lead singer has to pull me in. Old Rock like Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Def Leppard. I like what's classified as triphop I guess. Massive Attack, Hooverphonics, DJ Krush. And I don't know if I would call all of it classical but anything with that hauntingly beautiful piano is good. Claude Debussy, Yiruma, Alexander Desplat, Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Music I hate - POP MUSIC!!! BAD RAP!!
