Are torrents those things that steal the work of struggling artists ?

I was looking on google for translated lyrics but I could only find a shorter version of Fàgail Lios Mòr. The music for some of the songs can be found on you tube (generally the English titles).

A' Fàgail Bharraigh and Fàgail Lios Mòr are both leaving songs (Leaving Barra and Leaving Lismore). Both songs typically reflect the sentiments of the person leaving the land of his youth forever to make a better future overseas. Both songs reflect the sadness of the situation, describe well-known landmarks slipping by as the ship sails on, memories of youth and going to the unknown. I'll try to locate them.

Funny enough, a Mod medallist I knew used to have a wry comment on such songs, about the teary-eyed sentiment of the person leaving and after a few months in Canada, saying to the person "Okay, as you still miss it so much and sing about it, let's get you back there without delay" then note the reaction (ie nice to sing about but not to live there !).

Tiugainn Do Scalpaidh is a novelty - a song about going to an island rather than leaving it.

There's so many... but one of my recent faves must be Oi Polloi's Gaelic punk anthem 'Ar Ceol 's Ar Cànan'. Great tune, apt lyrics.
