Susan Boyle was on the Oprah show yesterday - she's such a little cutie.
I was very proud of her interview - she conducts herself quite well.
Simon Cowell (?) not sure of that spelling, was on the show in person - one of the acts featured were a group of 4 gals on violins - just fantastic.

And yet, what made the newspapers here is that the US tv channel had to use sub-titles when she spoke.

Do we ask for subtitles when people from the deep south appear here? Naw we dinnae!

Polwarth, I watched the show and do not remember seeing any sub titles at all. That's strange - I was very careful to have my television on, as I usually do not watch afternoon telly. I thought she was easy to understand, very respectful, not full of herself, and yet, showed some confidence too.

Does anyone know when the big day is going to be, when we'll know who the winner is?

Well, the sub-titles were certainly mentioned this side of the pond. How disrespectul is THAT?

I doubt anyone meant to be disrespectful - she is being much honoured here, thousands, literally thousands of fans. When I was in England, my English was sometimes not understood!!!! Southern accent I suppose, but I did not feel anyone was laughing at me - folks were really nice everywhere we went - including Scotland. I had trouble understanding Scottish people - admit it. I have trouble understanding my best friend over there - drives me nuts sometimes. Plus he has a soft type voice. But he seems to understand my English, which is nice. Still, we all work it out, don't we?

ps// The most wonderful language I heard on our trip was Welsh - cartoons in Welsh were fascinating.

I've just had a look at the references to Susan Boyle on South Park and The Simpsons:

Personally I have to agree with the sentiments expressed in the former!

It seems like the pressure is getting to Susan Boyle and she's been warned about her conduct but I have some sympathy for her. She's lived her life anonymously in a West Lothian backwater and now she's a global celebrity and I don't blame her for getting cheesed off with the constant media coverage. I hope it doesn't go pear shaped for her and she wins but I still think she was a mug not to have cashed in on all the publicity after her first performance by ripping up her contract with BGT and releasing a DVD. If she did she would already be a millionaire.
