Ellen,
If you have a check card or credit card, I sugesst trying to order music from www.cdnow.com. They have a great selction, and the prices are reasonable, especially on harder to get items. Capercaille is a little like Clannad from Ireland: traditional Celtic stuff, but definitely modern. I havn't heard of the bands you mentioned, but it sounds like what drummy was trying to tell you is that they are sort of considered hokey. Capercaille is classy stuff. Good luck in your search! |

I had good luck with CD Now up until recently. I won a gift certificate, and applied it to my order of two Andy M. Stewart CDs. So... I was willing to wait a bit. However, I originally placed the order back in March. It was the power of the gift certificate that kept me from changing my order to another retailer. If I'd any idea that they didn't have the CD's in stock in the first place, I wouldn't have ordered from them.
A week ago, I received notice that they had done everything in their power to find another source for the CDs, but had not been successful. Oddly enough, one of the CDs I wanted to buy was still listed in their "catalog". I wrote about this, and received no response. Negotiations are on-going. I may call in a UN Peackeeping force soon. I think you're better off going to a smaller supplier such as Green Linnet that specializes in folk music. Better yet, support your friendly local book/record store. The big chains are squeezing local stores out of business. Not too long ago, a friend who owned an indie bookstore had to close it down. Time to start a Capercaille topic Alexis? |

Maybe so, Sonsie. I know very little about them, though.
I wonder if there is an online network of small record stores doing mail orders, having lived in a few small towns (Key West, Bayfield WI,) I know that sometimes they do not have anything BUT the big bad chain. I know there is a network of used BOOK stores, but I have yet to see one for cd's and (even better) records. Know any for those unfortuante enough not to have a local store to patronize? |
