Where to start???? Want to learn to play bagpipes. Where is best place to get chanter and instruction book/video/tape? What should I look for in a chanter? How about reeds, is one better than another? How much can I expect to spend? Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome. I notice there are already a few posts about the practice chanter elsewhere.....guess I'll introduce myself to that group too.

Hello Hello, I've been away on a missionary trip in McDowell county WV, where we fix and build onto people's houses who need some true work, that was fun I tell you what. Hello hummingbird, May I be the third to welcome you into the bagpipe community. One fine instrument to get into. So you found a chanter? Out of curiosity what kind is it and is it a standard or a long chanter? Hope to hear from you soon. There's a lot more like you at Scotland.com.

Sounds like you've been very busy BagpipeBoy. Very generous of you to give of your time and talent to help families in need. Good for you!

I ordered a chanter kit from Henderson Imports. It's a long polypenco chanter with case and reeds, plus a book and tape. Is there a difference in ease of play or sound quality in the polypenco and African blackwood? I did a bit of searching on the web for info and preferences for one or the other seemed to be about even.

A big challenge is going to be finding an instructor that is close enough for me to get some lessons.

Thanks everyone for the friendly welcome!
