Meatloaf is good. I just got an email about being a product of the 80's (I'm too old for some of it) One of the items on it was remembering when SNL was funny. Do you remember seeing Meatloaf and Tom Petty on there? btw, when we were talking age on the other thread, I didn't mention mine. I was born in 64.
Sorry, T and Jelliebean, I don't know some of the bands you mentioned, I've heard of Cohen, but I'm thinking classical. Way wrong, huh?

Don't feel alone Dawn! (My first thought was George Cohan too. Remember James Cagney playing him in Yankee Doodle Dandy?) Somehow I didn't think they were talking about the guy who wrote that song plus "Grand Old Flag", "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Over There".

Dawn, Do you realize Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" album is one of the biggest selling albums of all time? Also, one of my fondest memories of Scotland was being at the 13th Century Castle dancing outside on the graden walls, (with the owner and the bartender) to "Let's Do the Time Warp Today"! (Gosh they were tons of fun!)

Hi Di, actually I was a little more off base than that, I got the Leonard part right, but I was thinking Bernstein. How bad is that?
I think I saw them do the Time Warp thing on Drew Carey, I can just imagine you in that scenario. lol
What I listen to mostly is 70's and early 80's hard rock, such as Queen, AC/DC, Van Halen, I like Meatloaf, but don't have any cds. I also listen to Courtney's music, the new pop stuff, not by choice usually but I like most of it. And since I've lived here for 17 yrs and we are in a valley, I guess you'd call it, radio reception is not real good and the only station we get clearly is country, I like that too. Of course I listen to Travis also. btw, Courtney and my niece saw them on MTV the othe day, but I was at work so I missed it, they didn't mention the wet kilt, though.

LOL! Dawn...I think I "blocked" MTV a few years back when I would come home from work and find that was the ONLY thing my son's ever had on!
My "little" violinist, Josh, (who I taught to appreicate almost any kind of music), also listens to Country Western! (*gasps*) The middle son likes "hard-core techno" (gabber) and thank God the youngest still likes Simon & Garfunkle and the Eagles (but also likes the guy w/ Mambo number 5...you know...the guy who sings the same tune EVERY time but just changes the words! lol!

You guys are cracking me up with your "Leonard Bernsteins" and "George Cohens"!! Leonard Cohen is a Canadian (I think) poet, and someone talked him into setting some of his raw, emotional love poems to music, and that was that! I think he is married to Rebecca DeMornay.
I cant think of anything by him that would be mainstream enough for someone to go "oh yeah! That guy!".
His vocals are really bare... he is not a singer, really. But his voice sounds really sad and empty and i like that. Dont know if it is everyone's taste... my husband finds it too depressing, but i dont mind being depressed as long as its just a temporary thing! You get a lot of thinking done when you're depressed!

I remember being embarrassed as a kid by my parents listening to Country & Western. But when i emigrated, i found that it was pretty popular in Glasgow, and i lived just up the road from a C&W nightclub called, you guessed it: The Grand Old Opry. After awhile i found i actually quite liked it! I dont like "modern" country... i like the old stuff like my grandparents used to listen to: Hank Williams, Charlie Rich, Jim Reeves, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, etc.

You know how lots of couples have a song that is "their song"? Neil's parents "song" is "Blanket On The Ground" by Billie Jo Spears!! I looked at his parents in a whole different light when i found that out!<lol>
My late grandmothers favourite song was "Make The World Go Away" by Eddy Arnold.. i still cry when i hear it, cos i think of her. I thnk my favourite C&W song is "Four In The Morning" by Faron Young, or "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones.

Oh Dawn I did listen to that final hidden Travis track. I quite liked it, but i never would have found it if you hadnt told me, cos after that long silence i would have switched it off!

Oh damn it, Leonard Cohen is so misunderstood by people who don't listen to the words. He is actually very funny and even if he isn't I think that when you are depressed it is good to have someone who can identify with that, you're not so alone in the world and that cheers you up.
Gossipmongers here: Leonard split up with Ms DeMornay quite a while ago and is now living as a monk at the age of 65, still writing poems though. I will quite happily have his children though. I keep telling people who go off to America to tell him this just in case they bump into him, just so he knows.
What's your favourite song T-bird. I love 'em all. <sigh>
BTW I love Leonard Bernstein too.
