Talking Burns Supper

No problem. The society exists for 20 years now and I guess we'll be able to survive some more years... ;0)

So you can come next year or in three years, just as you want. You'll always be welcome. By the way, try rampantscotland.com
They have the lyrics to many folksongs.

Talking Hi?

Hi LostOne, thanks for answering. I'm happy to hear from you as I am sitting here quite bored with my anatomy books and nobody's out there to chat with...

Re: Bored?

Yes, I was bored indeed, as there was noone on the Boards on Sunday when I, taking a pause from my books from time to time, tried to have some fun chatting.

I study medicine and there's quite a lot to learn, but I like it. Have you tried rampantscotland? I have a fine collection of Scottish folk lyrics, too. So just ask. My new favourite is the "The lover's heart" and, oh what joy, it is no jacobite song (I think). I like the melody a lot. Do you know it? Here are the first words:

She was in a flowery garden
when first she caught my eye
and I just a marching soldier
she smiled as I walked by.
The flowers she held were fresh and fair,
her lips were full and red
and as I passed the shady glen
these words to me she said

"Last night we spoke of love,
now we're forced to part,
for you leave to the sound of a marching drum
and the beat of a lover's heart"

I believe so......

Does he come and take her away on his horse in the end, after she has or becomes pregnant by him?
And as of yet I haven't had a chance to go to rampamtscotland but I might today, I think it my rain here so I will probably not garden, but I might paint instead...so many choices only one day....lol
I will let you know when I get the chance.

Re: I believe so......

Nay, this is a different song, based on an old legend (another weakness of mine, just like history).

Okay, then here is the rest of the verses:

She was by the shore in the evening
when next I saw my dear
running barefoot by the waterside,
she called as I drew nigh,
The sunlight danced at the water's edge,
lightning fire in her golden hair,
my young heart danced to her parting words
that hung in the evening air

Last night...

She was on the strand next morning
when orders came to sail
and as we slipped our ropes away
I watched her from the rail
She threw me a rose which fell between us,
it floated on the bay
and as our ship pulled from the shore
I heard her call and say:

Last night...

Now a soldier's life won't suit me,
sweet music is my trade
for I'd rather melt the hardest heart
that to pierce it with a blade
Let the time be short till I return
To my home in the north of Skye
and the loving girl who stole my heart
with these words as I passed by:

Last night...

Aaaaaaaaw, isn't that nice?

I will try to remember how that other song you mentioned was. I know it, just wait...
