festival of music started in Glasgow last night and runs until 2nd Feb. Joan Baez is playing tonight, Shane McGowan and the Popes tomorrow night, and I am going to see the Dubliners on the 26th.

Haha - oh but I do (although I don't think I went to any of it last year) - well, what I know I am missing just now is my bank card, so that should keep me away from the concert hall etc till next week, I think!

Fiery start for Glasgow festival

THE Celtic Connections music festival got off to a fiery start last night with a torchlit procession through the streets of Glasgow.

Despite heavy rain Lord Provost Liz Cameron led the 100-strong procession through George Square and Buchanan Street, led by a pipe band.

It is the first time a procession has opened the highly successful festival, which is now in its 11th year.

It was followed by the opening concert in the Royal Concert Hall. The show, Harvest, a one-off commission from Capercaillie's Donald Shaw, featured dozens of young musicians.

Ticket sales are already on course to match last year's record-breaking performance.

A spokeswoman said: "We are further ahead than this time last year. Some shows are already sold out."

Joan Baez, who performs at the Royal Concert Hall tonight, Bob Geldof and The Dubliners are some of the highlights of the festival, which last year attracted more than 100,000 in its two-week run and generated more than £3 million for the city.

Now, if it had been that city in the east and it had rained...........

I was there towards the end of Feb.. so I missed it..
