Hi Susan,

From somewhere I knew that you sang! What kind of music do you like to sing? I used to be way too shy to sing, but i decided i was tired of that so i've been trying to learn a few songs when i go for my walks.

Ian, how on earth did you get bold enough to get on stages and play and sing for people?

Holly, My whole family is musical. I have a brother who was on Broadway and an actor. My sisters are in groups and we started singing Broadway hits then Standards. I like singing in Italian, French, Gailic. I was told I could sing opera but I hate opera. I have cousins who are professional opera singers. I am having a problem getting words out now with my MS...NutraSweet....MS. I love standards and can't wait for them to overpower the radio airwaves again! All 10 family members play instuments and we have a blast when we are together.

We are all artistic with art also.

hi susan, good to meet you. i wish my family were musical - took me until my teens to even pick up an instrument and want to play! when i got my first flat it was the real turning point - privacy to bellow out songs!

holly, i don't know really - jammed for about 3 years with a couple of uni friends until we found ourselves playing gigs. i suppose the occasional folk club jam helped get our confidence up but it seemed the right thing to do at the time! i didn't play live on my own until early last year - suppose the nerves go with experience. seeing a friendly face in the crowd too helps..

kt - i'll jam to anything really - from folk, rock, country, jazz (not that i know timings or anything, i just experiment!)... instruments are ditto - anything that makes a noise!

Hi Holly. Ian and KT,

I never ever was shy about getting up and singing. I had a terrible problem, I could never remember the words. I would just laugh and tell everyone I forget them. I did not care I just wanted to get up and sing.

When I was in forth grade the teacher asked who played the piano. 2 boys raised thier hands. I thought it was a good way to get the class to think I could do something. Being the most stupid kid in class I needed them to think I had something I could do. They would never find out and they knew my family was musically inclined anyway. I raised my hand. The nun looked at me and her eye lids went up. I forgot the library had a grand piano in it. She got a smirk on her face and said "In two weeks from now will invite the priests and the whole school to hear you 3 play. I am sure she could see the shock in my face but I acted like I was exited. For the next two weeks I was sick. I had to have my mom teach my plus I had a piano teacher teach me. Went it was time to plat Mark got up and played am unbelievable song then Joe got up and repeated the senerio. My turn. That nun was smiling and it was because she was happy. She was going to get me. I got up and smiled.....that smile did not leave me. I put one finger on the piano and started. Doe...... a....... deer (wrong note)..........."NO"................Doe...... a..... deer (wrong note again)...........Go....a....deer...a...female....deer(wrong note).......(smiling I say) "Oh I forgot the rest!". They all clapped and no one ever said anything about it. My father told me if I learned to lye in life it will always come back to haunt me. I sure learned my lesson that day. I just wanted them to think I was smart at something but I looked like a dummy.
