Trad Music Industry's answer to the MTV Awards.

Hands up for Trad, in association with The Queen's Hall and BBC Interactive, announce the inaugral 'Scots Trad Music Awards' which will take place on 13th September 2003 at 7.30pm in Edinburgh's Queen's Hall. These awards present an annual celebration of Scotland's rich musical heritage and aim to create a high profile event that brings traditional music centre stage.

The Awards aim to rejoice in Scotland's thriving traditional music scene from Gaelic song, folk, Scottish dance to pipe bands. Artists represented within the 15 categories include Capercaillie, Phil Cunningham, Dick Gaughan, Battlefield Band, Cliar, Dochas and Aly Bain.

This is sure to be a fantastic night with a wealth of talent in attendance.

During the evening, some of Scotland's top performers - Deaf Shepherd, Back of the Moon, Ishbel McAskill, Gordon Duncan, Alasdair MacCuish and the Black Rose Ceilidh Band and Kelso High School Celtic Group will perform.

Over 6000 votes have been cast in the 15 categories. The public have voted via BBC Celtic Roots website and by postal vote.

This event has attracted many sponsors from within the industry. Visit Scotland have sponsored Best Festival Award, and this will be presented by their Chief Executive, Philip Riddle.
