In recent years many artists have tried to bring classical pieces, or the classical genre into the 21st century. To name a few Rob Dougan, William Orbit, Ferry Corsten, etc.

But what do classical and contemprary fans think of it all?

Me personally, I love the way Rob Dougan mixes creepy strings with an even deeper, darker bass, as in Clubbed to death and Furious Angels.

Your opinions please.......

I havenŽt heard of these artists yet but IŽll try to get some of their music.
I only know Vanessa Mae, she is playing classical music on an electric violin, I think. She was quite popular here some years ago

Vanessa Mae is still just doing classical though, isn't she. The only difference between recording an electric violin and a standard violin is that the pick up (bit like a microphone) is built into an electric violin whereas it is clipped onto a standard violin.

I have to say I'm a big fan of Rob Dougan, but the persons whose mix of classical and contemporary I find most interesting are DJ Shadow and James LaVelle, collectively known as UNKLE, though both very good at the technique in solo mode.

Prime example is 'Lonely Soul', which appeared on Psyence Fiction, and featured the vocal talents of the Verve's Richard Ashcroft. Typical DJ Shadow supernatural beats blended with rising strings. Like chocolate for the ears.

I'm not sure I would have put Massive Attack into anything like the same bracket as UNKLE.
Massive Attack ocassionally use classical instrument sounds, strings in particular, but never really in a classical music style.
Although, take nothing away from them. I enjoy their music, especially Blue Lines. I thought that was a fantastic album, though everyone else bangs on about Mezzanine.
