I had heard too that 'The Sweetest Thing' was written for his wife to say he was sorry for missing her birthday; I tell you what, NObody could stay mad at him after watching the video for that song!! It is so charming, and my favorite part is when the Chippendale-style dancers start cavorting on (I think) a fire engine. LOL!!!

Hey Susan;
How are ya? So have ya seen the new video yet? Oh, and yes, quite charming, I must say. Bono is...., well lets just say, I think he is a beautiful, talented and gracious man, (from what "we" the fans are allowed to see and hear). He has done so much, not just for the music world, but the political world as well. I'd take him!!! heeheehee!

I tell you what I am drawn to about Bono - his way of making his Christian faith a part of his very being, as an artist and a man. He doesn't shy away from talking about how his faith has been important to him in all aspects of his life, from his marriage to his creativity to his social conscience. I admire him a lot for that!

Over here, a whole new genre of music called 'Christian Music' has developed and its probably the first time a genre has been defined by the topics of the songs, NOT the style of the music. Turn on a so-called 'Christian radio station' and you will hear everything from folk music and hip-hop to pop music. I prefer rock-influenced music myself and its funny how little of that you'll hear on these mainstream radio stations! You won't hear any U2, you can bet on that.

But I actually prefer Bono's approach, where he is a singer and songwriter who just happens to be a Christian - he and the band do not actively seek to restrict themselves to the Christian label or genre. (Neither does Creed, to cite another contemporary example) Bono's faith comes out in his self-expression, which is the way it should be....

hi folks. just thought i'd pop in and say that i am also a big U2 fan...but i'm not knowledgeable about any of their music past rattle and hum. i've only heard one or two songs from their more recent stuff, like on t.v. commercials. i don't like it so much. so, i guess i am a "fan of U2's old stuff". i love boy, war, live under a blood red sky, the unforgettable fire, and the joshua tree VERY, VERY MUCH!!! i never did get my hands on october, though. so, you all think highly of the music post-rattle and hum? how do you feel the band has metamorphosized? i'm interested to hear what you think of how they've changed, etc. i also should give their newer stuff more of a chance. maybe i've been too stubborn. anyway, i hope to hear from you soon!

p.s. pabbybear, the sweet little bear you have there cheers me up!!

old and new

I was a little put-off by the more recent recordings, the Zoo bit and the Popmart thing seemed a bit cold; but I guess it was their commentary on the materialistic world so its ok... I like the older music a bit better, some of the social commentary songs had a passion that is almost visible. But I am simply crazy about most of the songs on 'All That You Can't Leave Behind', don't you think they are styled more like the older recordings? Maybe they're going back to their roots.

And how many guitars DOES Edge have, anyway?? It seems rare to see him play the same one twice! Delightful. That Flying V is a charmer, I bet ole Albert Collins would like that one; he was an old bluesman who had a fine red V & the story was, his hands were so big it was hard to hold a pick so he rarely used one at all... what a rich sound!

Oops, I got off on a tangent there. I do love good guitar!

Cool Hey ladies and gents!

Hey Pabbybear! You know? I probably have it all wrong about the Lemon song being written for Ali. I'm such a goofball! I probably got it confused with the other song you mentioned. Sorry

Wow! thanks for the video script of the Million Dollar Hotel. I seem to remember now seeing Bono on Entertainment Tonight awhile back where he was at a movie premiere about some movie he had written and produced and that was probably it.

You know I am embarrassed to say that I don't have Rattle and Hum and I don't have Pop, but everyone I talked to liked those two albums the very least. Guess I should get Rattle and Hum, though, eh? But I am like Susan in that I really like their ATYCLB album, but I think Joshua Tree is my favorite. I love watching Larry on the drums. Wish they would show him more.

I haven't seen the new video yet either, boo hoo

Follow me and I will take you into U2 world......LOL:
http://www.u2.com/lite/
Go to the "MORE" button under the picture that says "LARRY STARS IN ELECTRICAL STORM" and open. You need "MediaPlayer" or "Quicktime" to play the entire video. If you don't have either, you will get a window prompt to download from there. Check it out and let me know.
