Question Wanting help on how to move to Scotland

Hi all, I'm a British citizen who wants to move to Scotland. I got my nationality from my mum by decent, as she is originally scottish from paisley. So now my son can't take it from me. Is there a way that I could settle in Scotland and the council could help me with finiding a house and settling down? Would I get any benefits?

Where are you living at the moment for you to be asking about living in Scotland?

I am thinking that you do not live in the U.K. or you would know that being British entitles you to
live anywhere in the U.K.
Being an EU citizen also gives you the entitlement to live in the UK

As for housing I don't know how that would happen for someone wanting benefits as when we moved
from England to Scotland(2003) we had to go on a housing list and prove that my husband had employment
waiting for him before we were considered for a property.

We did not have choice on the area of Aberdeen we wanted to live in, the area we moved to was not one
of the best areas but then again there were some lovely people there.

Hopefully someone else can give you more information

Vicious circle...job - home.. unless you had a home to move into I can't see anyone employing you
and as I said we had to go on the council's waiting list in Aberdeen and only got a property when my
husband had a job to go to.

I am thinking that you need to look into the UK government sites to see if they are of any help in finding
a home for you and also about the benefits available.

If you have decided which town/city you would like to live in you could look in their council site to see
if they have information for you.

Lastly if you are entitled to benefits there will not be enough money to buy everything you need to
set up a home, so I hope you have some savings.

your first step will be to save up enough money to pay a few months rent while your looking for work.

there is a long long list of people wanting council houses so im afraid the wait will be a long one.

as said above youl need to have a home to get a job so your only option would be to private let a house or flat, but that means youl need a job first to pay the rent.

also you wont get any benefits when you first arrive as youve got to be here a while i believe before theyl even consider it

do you have a British passport?
