Hello everybody, I have just finished writing a very long message but it dissapeared after I tried to preview it. So here it goes again, very abbrieviated:
My fiance (american) and me (german) will be moving to Inverness since he got a job there. I have since then read a lot of tour guides and visited a lot of visitscotland pages but still would like to get information about the country that you cannot retrieve from tourist media: What would my job opportunities be (psychologist, just finished university)? What are job opportunuties for language teachers like (no training but work experience)? What kind of town is Inverness (been there but would like to know more)? What is the weather like, especially in summer? What is the predominant religion and political attitude? And maybe if you feel like it could you tell me your "idea" of the country or even the area, wether you are a native or a mover I'm sure both insides would be very helpful to me since I am kind of lacking exchange with people who actually live there! Thank you and I am looking forward to your replies! |

Hello, my home town is Edinburgh, not Inverness, but here's a little info!
Inverness, or 'inversneckie' as it is sometimes called - has quite a bit going for it in terms of community etc... Here's the local website - you may find something of interest on that site! http://www.inverness-scotland.com/ For teaching in the UK you would need to have 'official' qualifications, - the German equivalent of a PGCE, I suspect... As for Psychology - well, the NHS is probably your first port of call to find out whether or not they have vacancies in your area of expertise. Here's a website. http://www.show.scot.nhs.uk/jobs/ Of course, you may wish to work in Education or similar = in which case you would need to enquire re the local authorities in Inverness |

Thank your for your help! I was also hoping for an estimate on how likely it might be for me to find work as psychologist (given that i am not a native speaker). Also if there is any demand for that profession. I am just a little insecure about how to evaluate my chances. As for the languages I expected to need a degree in order to teach children but in some countries you don't need one for teaching adults.
